SEO the Difference
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a powerful tool for any business. So powerful in fact, that many companies have started up to increase the SEO for other companies! In this current day and age of online interactions, having the customer find you is essential.
In the past, if you wanted to sell a product, you usually would have a brick and mortar store. Or at the very least, you had a particular place you would set up shop at. If customer's wanted to find you, they would need to engage a listing and a map. The listing told the address and the map led them to it.
Today, as more and more people are added to the listing every minute, the "map" is now used to find your listing! This "map" is SEO. It will allow your listing to be in a place where people can find it. How is this done?
First off, as I said above, you can always hire another company to review your data and tell you what changes to make. The biggest benefit to this is because SEO is constantly evolving. These companies stake their own company on staying on top of that evolution. The biggest downside comes in the form of money. That's right. It's gonna cost ya. Even your friend who is good at SEO should get paid for the work that he does for your business. You are a business after all.
Aside from that, your only other option is to do it yourself. What should you focus on? Well, that all depends on when you are reading this blog post. Remember, it changes. When I started designing websites in the early 2000's, metadata was more focused on keywords. Nowadays, those keywords to basically zip for your SEO. There are some things that will never change though. Make sure that ALL the data on your website is relevant. Give it a proper title and keyword. Give all information a textual alternative if it does not have one (pics, for example, should have alt data attached to them).
At the time of this blog, SEO also relies heavily on the internet's version of word of mouth: links. The more sites that link to yours, the more clout you get. The more clout from the site that links to yours, the more weight the clout they give you will be.
With the constant change of SEO, it is important to look up what is currently relevant before you make any changes.
Lastly, the last thing you want to try to do in any day and age is attempt to "game" the system. The people designing these SEO's are looking for exactly the things you might be doing. Do it right and do it well, and all your customers will be able to find you exactly when they want to.
