The Reality of Dreams

When I watched David Friedberg's video on rockstar entrepreneurs (http://ecorner.stanford.edu/authorMaterialInfo.html?mid=2794), I was kind of struck by the dichotomy of the common sentiments of most entrepreneurs: If you work hard, you can succeed if you put your mind to it, but you'll fail! And most will!

My first impressions were that he was doing what he could to turn people away from start ups and to do other jobs first. While I understand his reasoning, that doesn't stop me from striving to accomplish my goal! I'll be honest. I'm not getting any younger. We read of these men and women who strive to be retired by 35. I will be just finishing up with college when I'm 35. If I want to be personally successful, it will be with my own start up company.

Creating a game board business is not the same as most companies. There aren't many board game publishers I can go work for to get a feel for it. It is more of an online presence nowadays. Going to work for Nike or Google will not get me any experience for what I am looking for.

In fact, running a Boy Scout Camp, as I have been doing, gives me more experience that I need than most other places. The next logical step is to go into business for myself.

That doesn't mean I cannot accept any advice he gives. I am not getting into business for the fame or the affluence. My mark on the world isn't one of any worldly significance. I desire to see them happy and to enjoy the experiences they will get playing my games. As long as I continue to keep this in mind, it will be okay. Will it be hard? Sure. Will there by times a single decision of mine will decide if the company succeeds or fails? Sure. But that's part of it. That's part of what I am looking for.
