A Family Force

As I read Yesil’s dilemma, a dilemma of all the decisions she faces as an entrepreneur, I was actually relieved to see the mention she made about being delighted to find a job – or to create a job – that allowed her to spend time with her family. One of the biggest fears I have in becoming an entrepreneur is the concern that the business would eat up my family life. While you can see that at times it creates a strain on her family, Yesil finds a way to make it work.
If my family is enough of a priority to me, I too can make it work. This is one of the reasons one of my guardrails I set up for myself is to always go home at the end of the day to my wife; no matter how much work I still have to do that day.
As I reflect on Yesil’s decision she had to make, I found myself wondering what was the carrying force behind it. Most of us don’t make decisions arbitrarily. There is an underlying force behind it. For me, that is my family. I work to support my future family. I learn to find an engaging career or calling that I will enjoy so I can support my family. As long as I keep this my driving force throughout all the business decisions I will be making, I have no need to worry.
