Investing in yourself

We often feel that we cannot succeed unless someone invests in us. Whether it is their time or money or devotion, we seek it out. So in return, we attempt to invest in others to see a return investment in us. It never works, though. The reason is the "why." Why do people invest in us? It is not because we try to invest in them. That isn't to say that it's not possible to get a return investment, but it is not simply a quid pro quo. I know this post might seem a little obscure in my theoretical, so let me clear it up for you.

We have to put time and money in ourselves. If we do not, no one else will. And I am not simply talking about your business right now. I am talking about you and I am talking about me.

When we really want to see our lives come to fruition, we need to invest in our lives. When people see you doing that, and see your devotion and your cause, then they will want to invest in you as well. They might even match you.

If we truly care about our businesses, it will show. People will want to invest (monetarily this time) in a business that they know will go somewhere. It is not a business model that takes a business anywhere. It is the devotion of the people writing the business model. That is why they read it; to see what kind of devotion you poured into it. I really enjoyed Peter Diamandis' comments on this.

When I was working on Kettle to the Metal, I found myself wondering why people are going to want to buy my product. This led me to some creative advertising and explorative ways to sell, but in reality, my kettle corn will sell simply because I am going to sell it. Even giving away some free samples is going to affect my bottom line for the better. That is how much I care about my product. Since I care about it, I am going to make sure it is going to be the best product on the market. That will sell it.

Switching topics, I was going to send my Head of Development to Meeplecon in Las Vegas to hopefully playtest some of our games with many avid gamers there. When I went on to gauge prices, I realized that there is no reason I shouldn't be going as well, so in March, we will be taking at least 3 of our products with us to the city of lights! I look forward to getting some more exposure. Also, I look forward to gathering some market data while I am there: what kinds of games do people seem to be playing the most during free time, which booths seem to be attracting the most people, how many are casual gamers to avid board gamers; how many of them make this their life!

This has led us to have a greater push for getting our products ready in time. This is also great for the goals we have set for this quarter. One of the things I need to finish before the end of the month is to find out how much capital I have to raise to kickstart Huebris. We also need to create a video for the site for people to want to invest. This is where the link I gave above really helps. I now know what that video needs to be about. It not only needs to show our game off, it really needs to show off the WHY. Why should they invest in Immix as a company to produce Huebris? That is the real question as opposed to why should they invest in Huebris. To many it may seem contradictive, but in reality, it is me they are investing in, not my product.
